Welcome to the homepage for the Salt Lake City Police Department’s Student Art Contest & Scholarship Program, an annual event that rewards SLC high school-aged students with scholarships and prizes in exchange for their anti-drug-themed artwork.
“While the art contest creates an opportunity for officers to talk with teens about the consequences of drug use, the greater purpose is getting teens talking with each other,” said Chief Chris Burbank, “because they have a better chance of getting through to each other. It is that power we hope to harness with this contest.”
If you’re a student attending a high school — public or charter — within the boundaries of Salt Lake City, then you are eligible for this contest/scholarship program. Home-schooled youth are also eligible as long as they are high school-aged and their primary residence is within the boundaries of Salt Lake City. Make sure you read all the guidelines and include an entry form with your submission.
Important dates related to the 2012-13 Student Art Contest:
- December 2012: contest begins and Student Resource Officers being in-school conversation about drug use/abuse.
- March 29, 2013: all entries are due. Entries submitted after this date will not be accepted.
Note: Students may submit entries to their respective school’s art teachers or their Student Resource Officer. Charter high school students and home-schooled students within the boundaries of Salt Lake City must contact the SLCPD Public Information Officer, (801) 799-6397, to arrange final pickup no later than March 29, 2013.
Any entry may be used in a public awareness campaign by SLCPD. In fact, the entries posted below were finalists from the 2011-12 contest, and they are now in rotation between movies at the Broadway Centre Cinemas in Salt Lake City.
