SALT LAKE CITY — The Salt Lake City Police Department seeks the public’s help to identify and locate a man suspected of fraudulently making withdrawals from automated teller machines in the downtown area.

Investigators believe the suspect placed a skimming device in a vending machine in the lobby of the U.S. Post Office, 5495 S. 4015 W., between December 13-18, 2013. The device enabled him to obtain users debit/credit card numbers and pin numbers. He was then able to transfer that information to blank debit/credit cards and used them to make withdrawals at ATMs in the downtown Salt Lake City area this month.

Suspect description:

  • White male
  • 30-40 years of age
  • Facial hair
  • Black jacket, black beanie

Investigators urge the public to check their online banking statements regularly to spot fraudulent activity. If found, contact your financial institution and local law enforcement as soon as possible.

The Police Department asks anyone who may know the identity or location of the suspect to call (801) 799-3000. Anonymous tips may be sent by texting the keyword TIPSLCPD plus any relevant information to CRIMES 274637. Reference: case #14-11043.
