Civilian of the Month

July 2010
Technology Manager Jim Hunsaker

Jim Hunsaker

Not only a manager, Jim Hunsaker has been a critical hands-on employee for many programs and projects for this organization and the Urban Area Security Initiative (UASI) program.

In November of 2009, Jim was the key employee in the writing of a Request for Proposal (RFP) for a software/hardware solution for the Salt Lake City UASI program.  The RFP was a solution that would allow every police agency in the valley to search all the disparate crime databases in an attempt to share information and develop actionable intelligence.  Jim completed the task of writing the requirements for the program and participated on the review of the proposals, as well as traveling to two locations for sight visits of the finalist vendors.

Unfortunately, the RFP process was cancelled due to technicalities and the group had to start all over again in March 2010. Jim has been the major player as it pertains to writing the second RFP to State standards, as well as advising the State’s purchasing division on the Salt Lake City UASI program requirements.  Fortunately, the new contract has been issued and the project will be implemented throughout the Salt Lake Valley for all law enforcement agencies.

Despite the demands of the RFP process two times over, Jim has maintained his ability to produce for the Police Department on many other high-profile projects.  He is one of the key players on the e-ticketing program, in-car video program, air card program, and crime mapping programs—all vital to efficient staff deployment.

Due to his initiative, creativity and mostly his willingness to put forth solid work from the technology manager role, Jim Hunsaker is Civilian Employee of the Month for July 2010.
