General Safety/Summer Kids Safety

SCHOOL IS OUT

*With it being summer and school is not in session there will more kids out and about. On residential street watch out for kids running in and out of the street, slow down. Keep an eye out especially in public areas parks, swimming pools and malls, for adults and kids walking around in parking lots not paying attention.
*With it being summer the summer heat is coming and this year they are already talking about warmer temperatures. DO NOT leave pets and kids in vehicle unattended, even if you think you’ll only be gone a sec. Vehicles left running unattended are an opportunity to be stolen. Every summer it there is a vehicle stolen with a child in the back seat. Dogs’, being left in unattended vehicles is a huge problem. Whatever the temperature is outside add 10-15 degree for the temperature inside of the vehicle. This is not only dangerous but could lead to criminal charges.

SUMMER VACATION

*With summer here people are leaving out of town for family vacations. Get to know your neighbors and have them keep an eye on your residence while you are away. Have your neighbor collect your mail or have it stopped at the post office. If you’re receiving a newspaper don’t let them pile up that might be an indicator also that you’re not home. One of my favorite things I’ve bought was a timer I can plug into a wall to turn my lights and TV on and off while I’m away. These timers can be turned ON and OFF by WiFi. This can be a great way to give the appearance that someone is home.

FRAUD ALERT:

There are many people being taken advantage of by phone scammers. With the smart phones, people are able to apply apps to their phones where they are able to “Spoof” phone numbers. These scammers are able to call people and the caller ID’s will show to the local police, FBI or IRS phone numbers. These scammers will call and threaten to arrest individuals unless they will go and pay money to Western Union, buy Green Cards from Rite Aid or ITunes cards. The scammers will then request the number from the Green Cards or the ITunes cards and once they have the numbers the victims are now out of the money and it is not possible to trace. Police, FBI and the IRS will not request money over the phone. If you ever have questions about a phone call the Salt Lake City Police (801) 799-3000.

Any information about your neighborhood you believe is important and would like to relay that information to the police feel free to call or send an email to me.
