'Ask the Chiefs' series starts this
Thursday at City Library branch

Public Q&A sessions provide direct access to Police, Fire Chiefs

SALT LAKE CITY—Joining together to talk directly with the public they serve about public safety, Police Chief Chris Burbank and Fire Chief Kurt Cook launch their “Ask the Chiefs” series at the Day-Riverside City Library branch, 1575 W. 1000 N., this Thursday at 7 p.m.

“Creating safe neighborhoods is a joint venture between public safety agencies and the citizens we serve,” said Chris Burbank, Chief of Police. “This series of public meetings is a new way to discuss challenges, solutions, and the roles each of us play in making the city a better, safer place to call home.”

Based on a question-and-answer format, Ask the Chiefs will be held Thursday
evenings at 7 p.m. at the following City Library branches:

“We look forward to engaging the public in a way we never have before,” said Kurt Cook, Fire Chief. “The input from the public will be valuable in helping us improve our services to the community.”

Each event will start with a short presentation from Chiefs Burbank and Cook regarding public safety issues in the city, with the majority of the time given to questions from those in attendance. Salt Lake City Television Channel 17 will videotape each session for broadcast at a later date.

Partnering with the City Library for this unique series was a natural choice, given the roles libraries play in the community. "Public libraries provide an important neutral venue for conversations within our community," said City Library spokesperson Andrew Shaw. "The City Library is pleased to work with the Salt Lake City Police and Fire Departments on this series to help foster dialogue between the leaders of our emergency services and the community they serve."

The public is welcome to email questions in advance to askthechiefs@slcgov.com.
