New video explains 3 ways to call police in SLC

SALT LAKE CITY — With the debut of a new general information phone number, the Salt Lake City Police Department seeks the public’s help to reduce the number of general business inquiries going to 911 and the non-emergency assistance line.

“Everyone knows 911, but not every 911 call is an emergency,” said Police Chief Chris Burbank. “We’ve had requests for pizza delivery and we’ve had pranksters who call 911 non-stop. What we’re asking now is that the public consider their situation and choose the most appropriate phone number to contact us,” he said.

The Police Department has added (801) 799-3100 to handle general business calls. As a result, there are three phone numbers to consider when contacting SLCPD:

  • Call 911: if the situation requires immediate assistance from the police, the fire department or an ambulance.
  • Call (801) 799-3000: if you still need an officer to respond, but do not require emergency assistance.
  • Call (801) 799-3100: if you need directions to the Public Safety Building, lobby hours, or seek to follow-up on an old case and do not recall the case number or investigator’s name.

A short video explaining the numbers and how they work is now available on the SLCPD YouTube channel.
