Student Art Contest Exhibit Opens for Gallery Stroll

May 17, 2012 — Scholarships worth $2,500 are on the line as Salt Lake City Police Chief Chris Burbank and other dignitaries review and judge entries in the 5th Annual SLCPD Student Art Contest tomorrow night at the City & County Building.

This is the first year in which the contest culminates with an art opening during the monthly downtown Gallery Stroll. Located in the lower level of the City & County Building, the art contest is open to the public from 6–9 p.m. tomorrow night. However, the artwork will be on display through the end of the month.

Nearly 100 students from four city high schools submitted entries in this year’s contest, which awards scholarships and laptops to the top two judges’ picks. Other prizes include iPads, iPods, digital cameras and t-shirts. The winning entries will be adapted for use in a public awareness campaign about the consequences of drug use and abuse.

The Police Department wishes to thank the Salt Lake City Police Foundation for underwriting this year’s Student Art Contest.
