New cadets bring Troop #2471 to 40 Explorer volunteers

SALT LAKE CITY — The Salt Lake City Police Department will welcome 17 new cadets to Explorer Post #2471 at 8 a.m. Saturday morning, March 29, 2014.

The Salt Lake City Police Department opened the Explorer application process in February. After an extensive background and interview process, the department invited eight young men and nine young women, ages 14-20, to join the post. The diverse group includes seven who speak a second language.

Reporters are invited to observe Saturday’s events, which will include a program introduction, safety awareness, radio procedures, firearms safety, drill and ceremony guidance, and physical training.

1:00 p.m.: Stations: 10 deadly errors; 6 major hazards; firearms
4:50 p.m.: graduation and awards
