The owner of the T-Shirt Shop attempted to stop a 14-year-old male who was exiting the store with stolen merchandise. Javier Pena (1/7/95), the juvenile’s accomplice, punched the store owner and both males fled on foot. Responding officers located the males a short distance from the store and took them into custody without incident. The juvenile was issued a citation for retail theft and Pena was booked into jail on robbery charges.
Stolen Vehicle / Fleeing
400 S. 300 W.
Police were called to 400 S. 300 W. on a vehicle theft that had just occurred. Responding officers located the vehicle as it entered the freeway at 500 South. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle, but it fled. Officers did not pursue the stolen car, which had crashed into a cement barrier as it was attempting to go westbound on I80. The driver, a 19-year-old male, was the sole occupant. He sustained leg injuries from the crash and was transported to a local hospital in serious but stable condition. This case will be presented to the district attorney’s office for criminal charges.
500 S. 500 W.
A 53-year-old male cyclist who was traveling southbound on 500 West crossed the intersection at 500 South on a red light and was struck by a westbound vehicle. The cyclist was transported to a local hospital in serious condition. Update: The cyclist remains in the hospital in serious but stable condition.
