The Joint Criminal Apprehension Team (JCAT) attempted to contact Kelly Fay Simons (38), a suspect involved in the robbery of a Scaddys restaurant in Murray, Utah. During that contact the Simmons was shot by a JCAT officer and died on scene. The Salt Lake City Police Department is investigating the shooting concurrently with investigators from the Salt Lake County District Attorney’s Office.

Sandra Chotia-Thompson confronted an employee at the Grocery Store at gunpoint and demanded cash. The employee complied and Chotia-Thompson fled the scene. At approximately 10:15 p.m., detectives established telephonic contact with Chotia-Thompson who cooperated in her apprehension. She was taken into custody without incident at approximately 455 S. 600 E. Chotia-Thompson was booked into jail on a charge of aggravated robbery. She and Kelly Simons match the description of suspects in multiple robberies within Salt Lake City for which detectives are now investigating them as the likely persons responsible.
