Kiet Thanh Ly (1/12/78) purchased a kitchen knife at the Smith’s Marketplace then went to the parking lot where he attacked the first victim, a 30-year-old man who he stabbed in the abdomen several times. Ly attempted to attack several other people who were all able to get away from him. He then attacked a 45-year-old man who sustained cuts to his arms and a stab wound to his head. A 47-year-old bystander, who is a concealed carry weapons permit holder, intervened and prevented Ly from harming others until police arrived. Both victims were transported to a local hospital in critical condition. Officers booked Ly on several felony charges. The motive for the attacks remains under investigation.

A 56-year-old man was crossing the street just west of the crosswalk at 900 E. 400 S. when he was struck by a white minivan. Officers booked the driver, Charles Colvin (12/5/93), for DUI.
