An officer stopped a vehicle driven by Fidel Miramontes (12/15/90) for a traffic violation. The officer impounded the vehicle because Miramontes did not have a driver’s license. Prior to the impound, the officer searched the vehicle and found a sock filled with more than 100 balloons of heroin. Miramontes was booked into jail on charges of possessing a controlled substance with the intent to distribute, failure to use a turn signal and no driver’s license.

Larry Paul (10/5/87) was stopped for trespassing. As the officer attempted to take Paul into custody, he punched the officer in the chest and ran away. After a brief foot pursuit, Paul was taken into custody. Paul was booked into jail on several charges that included trespass, assault on a police officer and resisting arrest.

When a 31-year-old man discovered his girlfriend was with Juan Reyes (7/15/63), he punched his fist through the window of her home, causing a serious laceration to his arm. Reyes came outside to confront the man, who had picked up a large rock and threw it at Reyes but missed him. Reyes picked up the rock, threw it back at the man, striking him in the head and knocking him unconscious. The man was transported to a local hospital in serious condition. Reyes was booked into jail on an aggravated assault charge.

A 43-year-old man became involved in a verbal dispute with a 47-year-old woman and her 25-year-old son. The situation deteriorated and the argument became physical. During the course of the fight, the 43-year-old man produced a handgun and fired one round into the ground. No one was hit by the bullet. The 43-year-old man sustained a head laceration and other minor injuries. Both sides gave differing versions of the incident. No arrests were made at this time; however, charges will be screened with the Salt Lake County District Attorney’s Office.

Hit and Run (Multiple)

A red Nissan Pathfinder, driven by Jessie Ambriz (5/4/87), rear ended a car at 1100 W. North Temple, forcing that car forward into two other vehicles. The Pathfinder fled the scene and a few minutes later collided with a parked car at 1025 W. Indiana Avenue, causing major damage. The Pathfinder fled that scene and subsequently struck another vehicle at the intersection of Redwood Rd. and California Ave. The Pathfinder fled that accident and continued southwest until the heavily damaged car burst into flames at 2100 S. 3200 West. Ambriz fled on foot but returned later to the burnt car. Ambriz took a phone from the scene that he believed was his but actually belonged to an officer. The officer called his phone and located it on Ambriz. Ambriz was booked into jail on charges of hit and run, obstruction of justice and theft.

A single-serving plastic bottle that appeared to contain a chemical liquid discharged in the front yard of a residence. No one was injured and there is no suspect information.

A northbound vehicle entered the intersection against a red traffic light and was struck by an eastbound TRAX train. A passenger on the train was transported to a local hospital with back pain.

Shots Fired

Vera Castillo (9/26/69) fired several gunshots at a neighbor and left in a vehicle. Castillo returned and fired more shots at the neighbors and then left again. Castillo sent a text to her daughter threatening to harm herself and possibly her other children. As officers were searching for Castillo and the children, Castillo drove to the police department and turned herself in without incident. The children were unharmed and Castillo was booked into jail on charges of attempted homicide and aggravated assault.
