Credit Union Robbery

A man approached a teller at the University First Credit Union and demanded cash. After the teller complied the suspect fled eastbound to nearby Smith’s Marketplace parking lot. There he got into a taxi and went to 400 S. Exchange Place. No weapon was reported and no one was injured. The suspect is still at large.

Shots Fired

A man and wife argued as the man grabbed a handgun and went outside. He fired the gun into the outside brick wall of the house and another four shots at a neighbor’s house. The suspect fled as officers arrived. A K9 Unit was deployed and tracker/sniffer dog “Junior” found the suspect nearby. Jared Pederson (4/19/1984) was booked on several felony charges including discharge of a weapon into an occupied dwelling. No one was injured.

Just before 7 p.m. on Monday, November 25, 2013, 73-year-old Genaro Zaragoza-Valencia was struck by a vehicle and thrown approximately 75 feet. Mr. Valencia died of his injuries on Tuesday evening. Evidence at the scene indicates that the vehicle that struck Mr. Valencia is a Silver 2002-2003 BMW 3 series, 2-door coupe or convertible. After hitting Mr. Valencia, the BMW left the scene westbound on 1700 S. The vehicle is likely to have front end and possible passenger side damage. The police department is asking for anyone with information to call the Salt Lake Police Department at 801 799-3000.
