SALT LAKE CITY — Due to storms moving through the Salt Lake Valley this afternoon, the “Playin’ Safe” bike safety rodeo at Liberty Park has been postponed.

Look for the free event at Westpointe Park, 1920 W. 1100 N., during Night Out Against Crime Tuesday, August 5. Parents are invited to bring their children, with or without bikes, to learn more about bike safety and to practice basic road safety skills.

To reinforce basic safety concepts, officer will also take the opportunity to “cite” children whom they observe “playin’ safe.” For example:

  • wearing helmets and other safety gear while on a bike or skateboard
  • properly using crosswalks at intersections
  • taking turns on playground equipment
  • using the buddy system while at the park

Each citation is a SUBWAY loyalty card loaded with enough points for a 6” sandwich at any Utah SUBWAY restaurant.

Reporters are invited to test their mettle on the bike safety course and help officers cite kids who are “Playin’ Safe.”
