Compiled by Watch Commanders in the field, the Watch Log is a summary of events that stand out to them in a given 24-hour period. Stolen Vehicle – Burglary Arrest

Officers spotted a stolen vehicle parked at the Salt City Inn. They were able to determine the driver of the vehicle was inside room 215. A large amount of property stolen in a recent burglary was located. Detectives responded to the motel and interviewed the suspect. The suspect, Harley Welsh, (38yrs old) was booked into jail for burglary, theft by receiving stolen property and felony theft.

Aggravated arson, assault on a P/O and fire personnel

Fire requested police assistance with 35 year old arson suspect. The suspect was on the roof refusing to come down. Negotiators were called out to talk the suspect down. The suspect became more agitated and started throwing bricks at police and fire personnel. Negotiators spent 3 hours trying to talk the suspect off the roof. The suspect removed his shirt and hung himself with it. He was transported to the hospital in serious condition.

Attempt Homicide/Domestic Violence

Officers responded to the hospital to interview a 44 year old female victim of domestic violence. Officers discovered the suspect, Richard Gates (46) had assaulted the victim by punching and kicking her in the face. Gates also put his hand over her mouth and nose, cutting off her air to the point of near (and possible) unconsciousness. During the prolonged assault, he also stood with his foot on her neck, also cutting off her airway. Eventually, she escaped and was able to get help. Officers located Gates and he was booked into jail for attempted homicide/domestic violence. The victim and Gates had lived on and off together for several years.
