Fatal Auto-Pedestrian Incident
900 W. California Ave.

A woman and her 5-year-old son were walking in the crosswalk at this location. As they crossed and SUV was turning south to east and ran over the mother and her son. The mother was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Her son was pronounced dead on scene. The driver of the SUV, Carl Johnson, 56, was arrested for DUI.

Occupied Stolen Vehicle
760 S. Redwood Rd.

An officer in the area located a stolen vehicle. A traffic stop was conducted and Marisa Jackson, 33, was arrested for possession of a stolen vehicle.

 

6:19 p.m.
Fatal Traffic Incident
1201 S. Redwood Rd.

Venacio Avila, 19, was travelling north on Redwood Rd at a high rate of speed. A van was pulling on to Redwood Road and Avila’s vehicle clipped the front end of the van. Avila’s vehicle veered off the road and struck a tree. Avila was pronounced dead on scene. The occupants of the van were taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

An officer observed a male riding a bicycle with no lights. The officer attempted to stop the male but he fled. The male was eventually located by officers. Richard Philips, 52, was booked for an outstanding felony warrant, possession of drugs and fleeing.

 

12:24 a.m.
Aggravated Assault
538 S. Redwood Rd.

An argument occurred at this location where a female hit another female in the head with a bottle. Officers arrived and took the female suspect into custody. While taking the suspect to the patrol car, she kicked the officer in the chest. Angelisa Avelar, 32, was booked into jail for aggravated assault and assault on a police officer
