Officers responded to a fight with a knife at the Smiths. Officers located the subjects actively involved in an altercation as they were walking East on 500 S. Officers confronted the suspect with the knife, at that time the suspect grabbed the other male pulling him close and putting the knife to the neck of the other male creating a hostage situation. Officers discharged their firearms at the suspect who was pronounced dead at the scene. OICI protocol was initiated and Protocol Team 3 responded. The deceased suspect has been identified as Andrew Preece, 34.

Officers were dispatched on a shots fired call and a vehicle leaving the area was stopped. A juvenile passenger indicated that he had been shot in the lower leg. He was transported to a local hospital for a non-life-threatening injury. At the scene of the shooting a house had been struck as well as several vehicles. No other injuries were reported.
