Attempted Carjacking

The victim parked in the pick-up lane at the Airport and exited the vehicle to attend to her granddaughter. As she was doing this a white van pulled alongside her vehicle. A male Hispanic adult exited the van and entered the driver seat of the victim’s vehicle. The suspect told the victim to take the baby and get out. The victim instead tried to grab the male who fled back to the van and left. The suspect was described as 5’9” tall, 20 to 25 years old with a thin build and a chipped front tooth. He was last seen in a white Ram Promaster van.

Robbery
1578 W. North Temple St.

The victim was working on a building at this address when he saw the suspect stealing tools from his vehicle. The victim confronted the suspect who brandished a weapon and took the victim’s property. The suspect tried to flee on a TRAX train but was apprehended as he exited the train by UTA Police. Franklin Wilt, 28, was booked into jail for robbery, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Shots Fired

Officers responded to a report of a single shot fired at this address. Evidence indicates a shot was fired; however, no one was injured, and no damage was found.
9:42 p.m.
Occupied Stolen Vehicle
1245 S. 900 W.

Officers observed silver Volkswagen Jetta and recognized it as possibly stolen. Once the driver exited the vehicle officers were able to confirm the vehicle was stolen. The driver saw officers looking at the vehicle and tried to leave the area. She was taken into custody without incident. Luseane Sapoi, 26, was booked into jail for felony theft.
