SLCPD Joins Thread, Expands Its Ability to Communicate

SALT LAKE CITY — Today, the Salt Lake City Police Department joined millions of users and joined Threads and expanded its ability to communicate with users worldwide.

Threads is a new app, built by Instagram, for sharing text updates and joining public conversations.

According to Instagram’s website, Threads offers a new, separate space for real-time updates and public conversations.

In today’s fast-paced environment for information, police departments must quickly adapt to new technology and harness the power of social media to communicate with both local communities and broader audiences effectively and efficiently.

“Social media platforms provide an unprecedented opportunity for law enforcement agencies to engage directly with community members, disseminate information quickly, and gather real-time feedback,” said Chief Mike Brown. “By embracing this advancement in our social media networks, we are hopeful to maximize our efficiency, promote public safety, and cultivate positive relationships with the communities we protect.”

Community members can follow the Salt Lake City Police Department under the handle @slcpd.
