SLCPD Investigating Critical Injury Crash

SALT LAKE CITY — The Salt Lake City Police Department is investigating a crash that left a 50-year-old man with critical injuries.

This investigation started at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, November 16, 2023, when a detective assigned to the SLCPD’s Auto Theft Unit spotted a truck with a stolen license plate near 550 East 400 South.

The detective tried stopping the truck but the driver took off at a high rate of speed.

The detective did not pursue the truck at any time.

Detectives found the truck crashed into another car in the intersection of 400 East 600 South.

The driver and passenger ran away.

Paramedics took the driver of the car to the hospital with critical injuries.

Responding officers surrounded the area and started looking for the two.

Officers safely took the driver, a 28-year-old-woman, into custody nearby.

The identity of the woman will not be released unless she is booked into jail.

The passenger remains outstanding. Detectives do not believe he poses any threat to the community.

Anyone with information about the passenger should call 801-799-3000.

The Collision Analysis & Reconstruction (CAR) Team and SLCPD Crime Lab technicians responded to the scene.

The CAR Team is a multi-jurisdictional crash team that investigates crashes involving serious physical injuries or death. Members of the CAR Team receive specialized training in collision examination, speed analysis, vehicle dynamics, occupant kinematics, scene photography, surveying equipment, crash scene mapping, evidence collection and computer aided drawing programs.

The CAR Team includes law enforcement from the Salt Lake City Police Department and several other Salt Lake Valley law enforcement agencies.
