SLCPD SWAT Team Safely Arrests Aggravated Assault Suspect

SALT LAKE CITY — A collaborative effort between the Salt Lake City Police Department’s SWAT Team, patrol officers, and social workers resulted in the safe arrest of a 62-year-old woman who refused to come out of her house after being involved in an aggravated assault.

This investigation began at 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 20, 2024, when SLC911 received a call about an assault near Mead Avenue and Navajo Street.

When officers arrived, they met with the victims and learned the suspect, Michelle Segura, pulled out a crossbow, pointed it at them and threatened to shoot one of them with it.

Based on the preliminary information, officers believe the victims and Segura are roommates.

There were no reported injuries.

Officers tried contacting Segura several times, but she refused to come out of the house.

Officers requested social workers to assist with the case.

The on-scene incident commander requested the assistance of SLCPD SWAT and Crisis Negotiators. These highly trained teams provide patrol officers with additional resources. After negotiating, Segura surrendered, and officers safely took her into custody at approximately 10:30 p.m.

Officers took Segura to the Salt Lake County Metro Jail and booked her on three counts of aggravated assault.

Charges are only allegations, and every arrested person is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.

The Salt Lake City Police Department is not the custodian of record for jail booking photos. Utah Code 17-22-30 mostly prohibits the release of jail booking photos. Generally, a jail booking photo can only be released by the custodian of record after a conviction or when law enforcement determines the person is a fugitive or an imminent threat to a person or public safety. In Salt Lake City, the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office is the custodian of record for jail booking photos.
