SLCPD Investigating Workplace Shooting, Seeking Tips from CommunitySALT LAKE CITY — Detectives with the Salt Lake City Police Department’s Homicide Squad are seeking information as they investigate a workplace shooting that resulted in the death of two men. “The psychological trauma experienced by witnesses of workplace violence can have a very significant and lasting impact,” said Chief Mike Brown. “Our victim advocates and social workers will be available to help any of the employees impacted by this shooting as our detectives are working to determine a motive.” Based on the preliminary information, there is no outstanding suspect or danger to the community. This investigation began at 2:33 p.m. on Sunday, March 3, 2024, when SLC911 received a call about a man with a gun at a business located at 1678 South Pioneer Road. Officers responded and located two men dead, one inside the complex and the other outside. Officers have recovered a firearm near the man outside. Because of the circumstances, the on-duty watch commander requested help from detectives assigned to the SLCPD Homicide Squad and Crime Lab Unit. Detectives will work with the medical examiner’s office to determine the identities, ages, causes of death for both men, and make next-of-kin notifications. This is the third homicide in Salt Lake City for 2024. Anyone with information about this investigation should call 801-799-3000 and reference case 24-48513.
