SLCPD Investigating Assault in Westpointe Neighborhood, 1 Person Injured

SALT LAKE CITY — The Salt Lake City Police Department is investigating an assault in the Westpointe Neighborhood.

This investigation started at 4:59 p.m. on Tuesday, March 19, 2024, when SLC911 received information about an assault at Northwest Middle School, located at 1730 West 1700 North.

Members of the Salt Lake City Police Department’s Police Community Response Team (PCRT) happened to be in the area when the call was dispatched.

The PCRT specialists located a 30-year-old man with non-life-threatening injuries.

The PCRT specialists provided a medical assessment, scene stability, and critical updates for the responding patrol officers.

Paramedics took the injured man to the hospital.

The specific cause of injury remains under investigation.

Witnesses told officers the suspects started walking and running away.

Officers detained several people nearby who may be involved in the assault.

The motive is still under investigation.

No arrests have been made.

Until detectives can verify the ages of those detained and determine their involvement, no information about them is being released.

Detectives assigned to the Salt Lake City Police Department’s Robbery and Violent Crime Squad are assisting with the investigation.

The Salt Lake City Police Department’s Crime Lab Unit responded to process the crime scene.

This case is not connected to an earlier incident that occurred in downtown Salt Lake City.
