SLCPD Investigating a Deadly Shooting

SALT LAKE CITY — The Salt Lake City Police Department is investigating a deadly shooting in the Glendale neighborhood.

This investigation started at 4:09 p.m. on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, when SLC911 received a call about a shooting that just occurred at 3075 West Decade Drive.

Officers arrived and found a man down on the ground with a life-threatening gunshot wound. Officers and paramedics performed lifesaving aid but the man died on scene.

The SLCPD Homicide Squad will work with the medical examiner’s office to confirm the man’s name, cause of death and to notify next-of-kin.

SLCPD has one person of interest in custody.

The specific circumstances leading up to the fight and shooting remain under investigation. However, the appears to be an isolated incident. There does not appear to be an imminent danger to the community.

Detectives believe some of the witnesses to this incident left the scene before officers arrived. Anyone with information should call 801-799-3000.

This is the sixth homicide in Salt Lake City for 2024.

The Salt Lake City Police Department’s Homicide Squad is the only full-time dedicated homicide squad in the State of Utah. The SLCPD’s Homicide Squad is responsible for handling homicides, as well as the city’s attended deaths, unattended deaths, suspicious deaths, and deaths by suicide. Additionally, the squad is tasked with investigating missing persons cases and officer-involved shootings/critical incidents (OICI) from other agencies in Salt Lake County.
