SLCPD Investigating Critical Injury Hit and Run Crash in Glendale Neighborhood

SALT LAKE CITY — The Salt Lake City Police Department is investigating a critical injury hit-and-run crash in the Glendale neighborhood.

This investigation started at 3:21 a.m. on Saturday, June 8, 2024, when SLC911 received reports of a crash near 1040 South Redwood Road.

Officers found a man on the ground with critical injuries.

Based on the preliminary investigation, a car going north on Redwood Road hit the man as he crossed the road.

The man hit did not appear to be in a marked crosswalk at the time of the crash.

The driver who hit the man did not stop and likely continued north.

Salt Lake City Fire and Gold Cross Ambulance took the man to the hospital in critical condition.

At this time, there is no description available of the driver who left the scene nor is there a description of the car itself.

Officers and detectives are working to confirm the man’s age and identity as of this writing.

There are no longer any road closures associated with this incident.

The Collision Analysis & Reconstruction (CAR) Team and SLCPD Crime Lab technicians responded to the scene.

The Salt Lake City Police Department’s Collision Analysis and Reconstruction (CAR) Unit, which investigates deadly or critical injury crashes, is part of a multi-jurisdictional task force examining the most serious crashes throughout the Salt Lake Valley.

SLCPD CAR detectives are highly skilled and trained in collision examination, speed analysis, vehicle dynamics, occupant kinematics, scene photography, surveying equipment, crash scene mapping, evidence collection, and computer-aided drawing programs. They respond to scenes, identify, and collect evidence, analyze it, and present it for prosecution, managing cases from start to finish.

SLCPD CAR detectives are also part of the multi-jurisdictional CAR Team, which includes law enforcement from the Salt Lake City Police Department and several other Salt Lake Valley agencies, ensuring thorough investigations of crashes involving serious physical injuries or death.
