SLCPD Arrest 19-Year-Old Man Involved in May Deadly Shooting

SALT LAKE CITY — Today, the Salt Lake City Police Department is announcing the arrest of a 19-year-old man who is accused of shooting and killing 30-year-old Nico Christopher Patino.

Detectives booked Abdihakim Mohamed into the Salt Lake County Metro Jail on one charge of aggravated murder.

This investigation started at 4:03 a.m. on Sunday, May 26, 2024, when SLC911 received several calls about a shooting near 1800 West Fortune Road.

Officers arrived and found Patino with a gunshot wound. He died on scene.

The SLCPD Homicide Squad and Gang Unit detectives worked together to identify Mohamed as a shooter.

Detectives believe Mohamed and other suspects showed up at an after-hours event in a warehouse and shot Patino before taking off in a car.

On Tuesday, June 18, 2024, SLCPD SWAT detectives safely arrested Mohamed and recovered a loaded gun.

The motive remains under investigation.

Anyone with information on this case, including having photos or video, is asked to call 801-799-3000 or submit an anonymous tip using the City Protect App and reference case number 24-113488.

Charges are only allegations, and every arrested person is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.

The Salt Lake City Police Department is not the custodian of record for jail booking photos. Utah Code 17-22-30 mostly prohibits the release of jail booking photos. Generally, a jail booking photo can only be released by the custodian of record after a conviction or when law enforcement determines the person is a fugitive or an imminent threat to a person or public safety. In Salt Lake City, the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office is the custodian of record for jail booking photos.

No further information on this case is being released. Neither the PIO nor the On-Duty Watch Commander are available for interviews.
