SLCPD Investigating Critical Injury Crash on State Street

SALT LAKE CITY — Detectives with the Salt Lake City Police Department’s Collision Analysis & Reconstruction (CAR) Team are investigating a critical injury crash on State Street.

This investigation started at 3:43 p.m. on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, when officers spotted a 32-year-old man lying on the road at 1800 South State Street.

The Salt Lake City Fire Department and Gold Cross Ambulance arrived on the scene and took the man to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the truck is cooperating with the investigation.

Based on the preliminary investigation, detectives and officers believe the man was crossing the road against traffic when the driver of the truck struck him.

Because of the severity of the injuries, the on-duty watch commander requested the help of the Collision Analysis & Reconstruction (CAR) Team and SLCPD Crime Lab technicians.

The CAR Team is a multi-jurisdictional crash team that investigates crashes involving serious physical injuries or death. Members of the CAR Team receive specialized training in collision examination, speed analysis, vehicle dynamics, occupant kinematics, scene photography, surveying equipment, crash scene mapping, evidence collection and computer-aided drawing programs.

The CAR Team includes law enforcement from the Salt Lake City Police Department and several other Salt Lake Valley law enforcement agencies.
