SLCPD Releases Sandhurst Fire Photos, Videos

SALT LAKE CITY — Today, the Salt Lake City Police Department released several photos, in addition to videos already posted on its X account, taken within the fire closure area of the Sandhurst Fire.

At 4:53 p.m., on Saturday, July 20, 2024, the Salt Lake City Fire Department requested the assistance of Salt Lake City police officers for a large and growing fire later named the “Sandhurst Fire.”

Because the fire grew so rapidly, and began heading towards several homes, the Salt Lake City Fire Department requested the Salt Lake City Police Department help with notifying community members about evacuations and traffic control.

Salt Lake City Police Department officers went door-to-door helping to ensure community members knew about the evacuation zones.

Officers also evacuated and shut down Memory Grove Park to allow for firefighters to access a water source safely.

To help ensure the safety of firefighters, and to allow for quick access for incoming fire units, officers shut down several roads, including East Capitol Boulevard, North Bonneville Road, and City Creek Canyon Road.

To support and maintain continuity of public safety operations within the city, the on-duty incident commander for the Salt Lake City Police Department requested the assistance of all available on-duty officers.

In addition to officers going door-to-door, several officers hiked up trails near Ensign Peak to help ensure people got off the trails safely.

Salt Lake City Police Department officers will continue to support fire operations as needed.

Officers will continue blocking all access to the evacuation zones. Those who do not live in the evacuation zones will not be permitted to pass.

Officers will also be patrolling within the evacuation zones; anyone seeing any suspicious activity should call 9-1-1 immediately.
