SLCPD Announces All Sandhurst Fire Evacuation Orders Lifted, Residents Urged to Stay Prepared

SALT LAKE CITY — Tonight, in consultation with the Sandhurst Fire incident commander, the Salt Lake City Police Department lifted all evacuation orders previously associated with the Sandhurst Fire.

After strong efforts by firefighting resources on the Sandhurst Fire, containment has been reached on the southern perimeter.

Fire managers feel confident the fire will not progress further towards the community. Therefore, they have recommended lifting the evacuations for the fire.

This includes the mandatory evacuation order for residents north of Dorchester Drive, including Twickenham Drive and the voluntary evacuation of the neighborhood west of East Capitol Boulevard and east of Victory Road.

Residents may re-enter but are asked to follow @utahwildfire for incident updates (https://utah-fire-info-utahdnr.hub.arcgis.com/).

This is a conditional re-entry.

The Sandhurst Fire incident command team is requesting residents, once returned, to remain prepared to evacuate, if needed. The Sandhurst Fire incident management team is drafting conditions under which the evacuation order would be re-instated.

The incident command team remains on the fire and will continue efforts to increase containment.

All updates on fire activity and size, will be released by the U.S. Forest Service and the Sandhurst Fire incident command.

Both the Salt Lake City Police Department and the Sandhurst Fire incident command team continue to ask non-residents to avoid the area. This will ease access for residents, but mostly avoid inhibiting firefighting resources.

Trail closures for Ensign Peak, Tunnel Springs, and the section of the Bonneville Shoreline Trail nearest the fire remain in effect.

Additional localized park closures may remain in effect, including City Creek Canyon, as determined by the Salt Lake City Department of Public Utilities to assist with firefighting efforts.
