SLCPD Continues Enforcement on Jordan River Trail, Suspected Drug Distributor Arrested

SALT LAKE CITY — The Salt Lake City Police Department’s ongoing efforts to reduce victimization and improve safety along the Jordan River Trail continues with the arrest of a 29-year-old man accused of illegal drug distribution.

This investigation started at 4:37 p.m. on Thursday, August 22, 2024, when an officer working a dedicated Jordan River Trail patrol shift spotted a man, later identified as Kyaw Poe, throw something into the river.

The officer stopped Poe to begin an investigation.

During the investigation, Poe ran off and refused to stop for the officer.

With the help of a Utah Department of Public Safety (DPS) helicopter, responding officers found Poe and took him into custody.

Officers recovered methamphetamine, over 150 blue M-30 fentanyl pills, cash and other drug paraphernalia.

Officers booked Poe into the Salt Lake County Jail on two felony charges of distribution of a controlled substance, failure to stop at the command of a police officer, and providing false information to a police officer.

Charges are only allegations, and every arrested person is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.

The Salt Lake City Police Department is not the custodian of record for jail booking photos. Utah Code 17-22-30 mostly prohibits the release of jail booking photos. Generally, a jail booking photo can only be released by the custodian of record after a conviction or when law enforcement determines the person is a fugitive or an imminent threat to a person or public safety. In Salt Lake City, the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office is the custodian of record for jail booking photos.
