SLCPD Provides Update on Central 9th Crash, Bicyclist Dies From Injuries

SALT LAKE CITY — Today, the Salt Lake City Police Department is providing an update on a critical injury crash that injured, and later killed, a 45-year-old woman in the Central 9th neighborhood.

The woman is identified as Breanna Anderson.

This investigation started at 12:07 a.m. on Sunday, September 22, 2024, when a Salt Lake City Police officer spotted a car stopped in the road with its hazard lights on near 400 West and 800 South.

The officer walked up to the car found and Anderson lying in the road with multiple injuries.

The Salt Lake City Fire Department and Gold Cross Ambulance took Anderson to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the car is cooperating with the investigation.

Based on the preliminary investigation, detectives and officers believe Anderson was riding her bicycle westbound in the eastbound lanes and struck the car head on.

Anyone with information on this case is asked to call 801-799-3000.

Because of the severity of the injuries, the on-duty watch commander requested the help of the Collision Analysis & Reconstruction (CAR) Team and SLCPD Crime Lab technicians.

The CAR Team is a multi-jurisdictional crash team that investigates crashes involving serious physical injuries or death. Members of the CAR Team receive specialized training in collision examination, speed analysis, vehicle dynamics, occupant kinematics, scene photography, surveying equipment, crash scene mapping, evidence collection and computer-aided drawing programs.

The CAR Team includes law enforcement from the Salt Lake City Police Department and several other Salt Lake Valley law enforcement agencies.

This crash marks the 11th traffic-related death in Salt Lake City for 2024.

No further information is available for release.
