SLCPD Officers Injured in Large Fight, Six People Arrested

SALT LAKE CITY — The Salt Lake City Police Department is investigating a large fight that resulted in a citywide response due to the number of people physically fighting each other and officers.

The incident also injured two SLCPD officers.

This investigation started at approximately 11:28 p.m. on Friday, November 1, 2024, when Salt Lake City Police responded to a fight in progress at a bar, located near 1700 South Main Street.

Based on the preliminary investigation, several officers responded and attempted to break up the fight.

A secondary fight between several people outside the bar occurred a short time later at 12:07 a.m. on Saturday, November 2, 2024, while officers tried to safely address the first incident.

It is estimated that 30-40 people began fighting with each other and officers.

While attempting to contain the incident and restore public safety, officers used oleoresin capsicum (OC spray).

Officers and detectives from across the city responded to the incident to help safely, quickly, and effectively address the issue.

During the fight, two SLCPD officers were injured. Neither needed to go to the hospital.

In total, SLCPD officers have arrested six people who will be transported to jail on various charges including public intoxication and disorderly conduct.

The names and ages of those involved are not immediately available.

The circumstances of the initial and secondary fight are not known.

Charges are only allegations, and every arrested person is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.

The Salt Lake City Police Department is not the custodian of record for jail booking photos. Utah Code 17-22-30 mostly prohibits the release of jail booking photos. Generally, a jail booking photo can only be released by the custodian of record after a conviction or when law enforcement determines the person is a fugitive or an imminent threat to a person or public safety. In Salt Lake City, the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office is the custodian of record for jail booking photos.

The information contained in this news release is based on a preliminary review of the details available to the Salt Lake City Police Department. As the investigation progresses, information may change.
