SLCPD Requested to Investigate Officer-Involved-Critical-Incident Involving U.S. Marshals Service

SALT LAKE CITY — The Salt Lake City Police Department (SLCPD) is investigating an officer-involved-critical incident (OICI) at the request of the United States Marshals Service (USMS).

While the SLCPD is the lead investigative agency for this OICI, it does not assume primary responsibilities for media requests and/or interviews.

However, this statement is being released to provide community members awareness of this incident.

Because the USMS is the involved agency, they are in the best position to provide specific details about their involvement in this incident, the events leading up to the qualifying OICI, and any other relevant information.

At 4:22 p.m. on Monday, November 4, 2024, members from a USMS fugitive task force requested SLCPD officers respond to the area of Elm Avenue and Lincoln Street.

SLCPD officers responded under an agency assist call type.

When SLCPD officers arrived on scene, they learned the USMS had been involved in an OICI, as defined by Utah law.

The incident occurred near 2150 South Lincoln Street in the Sugar House neighborhood.

Paramedics took one person, under law enforcement guard, to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

There were no other injuries reported.

SLCPD officers assisted with scene management and traffic control. No SLCPD officers were on scene prior to the qualifying OICI.

The information contained in this news release is based on a preliminary review of the details available to the Salt Lake City Police Department. As the investigation progresses, information may change.

Once the investigation is complete, the SLCPD will refer the case to the district attorney’s office for review. In the interim, the SLCPD will likely not be releasing any other details about this case.
