SLCPD Investigating an Aggravated Robbery in Glendale Neighborhood

SALT LAKE CITY — The Salt Lake City Police Department is investigating an aggravated robbery in the Glendale neighborhood.

The investigation started at 3:14 p.m. on Friday, November 8, 2024, when SLC 911 received a call about a person with a knife inside of a convince store, located at 1350 West Indiana Avenue.

Based on preliminary information, a 58-year-old man, now identified as Scott Hunt, entered the store with a knife and stole cash and a pack of cigarettes.

As Hunt went to leave, he experienced difficulty leaving and got stuck inside. Hunt is accused of chasing the store clerk inside.  The chase ended when the clerk hit Hunt over the head with a stool.

Eventually, Hunt left store and ran toward Indiana Avenue where an officer took him into custody.

Just prior to being arrested, community members saw Hunt stashing what appeared to be evidence inside of a trash can.

Paramedics took Hunt to a local hospital for injuries he received when the clerk hit him with the stool. He is expected to be taken to the Salt Lake County Metro Jail and booked in on charges that include aggravated robbery and aggravated assault.

The Salt Lake City Police Department is not the custodian of record for jail booking photos. Utah Code 17-22-30 mostly prohibits the release of jail booking photos. Generally, a jail booking photo can only be released by the custodian of record after a conviction or when law enforcement determines the person is a fugitive or an imminent threat to a person or public safety. In Salt Lake City, the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office is the custodian of record for jail booking photos.

The information contained in this news release is based on a preliminary review of the details available to the Salt Lake City Police Department. As the investigation progresses, information may change.
