SLCPD Detectives Book Murder Suspect into JailSALT LAKE CITY — Today, detectives with the Salt Lake City Police Department booked a 63-year-old man into the Salt Lake County Metro jail on allegations he killed his wife. This investigation started on Tuesday April 4, 2023, when a family member of Larry Johnson called the Pleasant Grove Police Department and requested assistance. The Pleasant Grove Police Department informed SLC911 that Larry Johnson had allegedly told a family member he killed his wife on Sunday April 2, 2023. SLCPD officers and Salt Lake City firefighters went to the couple’s apartment, located at 535 South 200 East, and found 71-year-old Victoria Johnson dead. As officers secured the apartment complex, officers with the Pleasant Grove Police Department safely took Larry Johnson into custody. Members from the SLCPD Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT) brought Larry Johnson back to the Public Safety Building in Salt Lake City. Detectives with the SLCPD’s Homicide Squad and technicians with the SLCPD’s Crime Lab Unit responded to the apartment complex to process the scene. Officers booked Johnson into the Salt Lake County Metro jail on one count of Murder and one count of Obstruction of Justice. This is the fourth homicide in Salt Lake City for 2023. The medical examiner will determine the cause of death. Charges are only allegations, and every arrested person is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. No further information on this case is being released. Neither the PIO nor the On-Duty Watch Commander are available for interviews. Three photos from the scene are being released. Media may use these photos with credit to the Salt Lake City Police Department. The Salt Lake City Police Department is not the custodian of record for jail booking photos. Utah Code 17-22-30 mostly prohibits the release of jail booking photos. Generally, a jail booking photo can only be released by the custodian of record after a conviction or when law enforcement determines the person is a fugitive or an imminent threat to a person or public safety. In Salt Lake City, the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office is the custodian of record for jail booking photos.
