SLCPD Provides Update on Downtown Shooting Investigation

SALT LAKE CITY – Today, the Salt Lake City Police Department is providing an update on a gang-related shooting that occurred in downtown on August 10, 2024.

This investigation began around 12:55 a.m. on Saturday, August 10, 2024, when officers, on an unrelated call, heard multiple gunshots south of their location. At the time, the officers were investigating a fight near 320 South State Street.

As the fight unfolded, someone dropped a gun. The fight took place before the shooting. Officers determined the shooting occurred at State Street and Exchange Place. Detectives are still investigating whether there is any connection between the initial fight and the shooting.

On Sunday, August 10, 2024, law enforcement arrested a 32-year-old man in Taylorsville. Detectives booked him into the Salt Lake County Metro Jail on numerous felony charges unrelated to the shooting investigation. However, he is suspected of being involved in the shooting, and criminal charges against him are pending.

On Wednesday, August 21, 2024, detectives from the Salt Lake City Police Department’s Gang Unit safely arrested 22-year-old Raymond Gallegos. Detectives booked Gallegos into the Salt Lake County Metro Jail on charges of unlawful possession of a dangerous weapon as a restricted person and unlawful possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute. Detectives have established probable cause indicating that Gallegos was in illegal possession of a firearm during the fight near 320 South State Street.

On Friday, August 23, 2024, detectives from the Salt Lake City Police Department’s Gang Unit safely arrested 30-year-old Devin Bradley in Ogden. The Salt Lake City Police Department acknowledges the assistance of the Ogden Police Department’s SWAT Team and Gang Unit in this case. During the arrest, detectives executed a court-authorized search warrant, uncovering drugs, weapons, and other potential evidence possibly related to the August 10, 2024 shooting investigation. Detectives booked Bradley into the Weber County Jail on outstanding warrants.

The shooting on August 10, 2024, resulted in a critical injury to a man. He is expected to survive and remains in the hospital. His name is not being released because he is facing felony criminal charges in an unrelated, out-of-state matter.

The shooting also injured a 24-year-old woman. Doctors treated and released her on August 10, 2024.

The investigation into this case is ongoing, and no additional details are available for release.

Charges are only allegations, and every arrested person is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.

The Salt Lake City Police Department is not the custodian of record for jail booking photos. Utah Code 17-22-30 mostly prohibits the release of jail booking photos. Generally, a jail booking photo can only be released by the custodian of record after a conviction or when law enforcement determines the person is a fugitive or an imminent threat to a person or public safety. In Salt Lake City, the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office is the custodian of record for jail booking photos.

The Salt Lake City Police Department’s Gang Unit is essential in combating gang-related crimes. The unit of skilled and highly trained officers and detectives collaborates with patrol divisions and other specialty squads to gather intelligence and prevent gang and gun violence through education, prevention, and enforcement. The unit’s understanding of gang culture allows them to disrupt operations and prevent violence effectively. By working proactively and with various partners, the Gang Unit enhances public safety, fosters community trust, and reduces gang activity in the city.

No further information on this case is being released.
