SLCPD Investigating Critical Injury Crash on 800 South

SALT LAKE CITY — Detectives with the Salt Lake City Police Department’s Collision Analysis & Reconstruction (CAR) Team are investigating a critical injury crash on 800 South.

This investigation started at 12:07 a.m. on Sunday, September 22, 2024, when an officer spotted a car stopped in the road with its hazard lights on near 400 West and 800 South.

The officer walked up to the car and saw a 45-year-old woman lying in the road with multiple injuries.

The Salt Lake City Fire Department and Gold Cross Ambulance arrived on the scene and took the woman to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the car is cooperating with the investigation.

Based on the preliminary investigation, detectives and officers believe the woman was riding a bicycle westbound in the eastbound lanes and struck the car head on.

Because of the severity of the injuries, the on-duty watch commander requested the help of the Collision Analysis & Reconstruction (CAR) Team and SLCPD Crime Lab technicians.

The CAR Team is a multi-jurisdictional crash team that investigates crashes involving serious physical injuries or death. Members of the CAR Team receive specialized training in collision examination, speed analysis, vehicle dynamics, occupant kinematics, scene photography, surveying equipment, crash scene mapping, evidence collection and computer-aided drawing programs.

The CAR Team includes law enforcement from the Salt Lake City Police Department and several other Salt Lake Valley law enforcement agencies.
