SLCPD Investigating Critical Injury Crash in Ballpark Neighborhood

SALT LAKE CITY — Detectives with the Salt Lake City Police Department’s Collision Analysis & Reconstruction (CAR) Team are investigating a critical injury crash on 300 West 1700 South.

This investigation started at 6:21 p.m. on Tuesday, September 24, 2024, when SLC911 received information about a crash involving six cars.

The Salt Lake City Fire Department and Gold Cross Ambulance arrived on the scene and took a passenger to the hospital in critical condition.

All drivers remained on scene and are cooperating with the investigation.

Based on the preliminary investigation 5 vehicles were stopped for a red light at 300 West and 1700 South. A small SUV did not slow down and crashed into the back of a car, causing a chain reaction crash.

Because of the severity of the injuries, the on-duty watch commander requested the help of the Collision Analysis & Reconstruction (CAR) Team and SLCPD Crime Lab technicians.

The CAR Team is a multi-jurisdictional crash team that investigates crashes involving serious physical injuries or death. Members of the CAR Team receive specialized training in collision examination, speed analysis, vehicle dynamics, occupant kinematics, scene photography, surveying equipment, crash scene mapping, evidence collection and computer-aided drawing programs.

The CAR Team includes law enforcement from the Salt Lake City Police Department and several other Salt Lake Valley law enforcement agencies.
