SLCPD Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT) Safely Arrest Woman; Recover Gun, Drugs

SALT LAKE CITY — Detectives with the Salt Lake City Police Department’s Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT) safely arrested a 50-year-old woman and seized a gun, drugs, and cash.

This investigation started around 7:30 p.m. on Friday, October 11, 2024, when SLCPD VCAT detectives saw the woman, a fugitive, near 1800 South West Temple.

The woman drove into a dead-end near 1100 South Major Street.

Detectives conducted a high-hazard traffic stop to take the woman into custody on her outstanding warrants.

The woman refused to exit her car.

For nearly 15 minutes, detectives worked to communicate with the woman.

After speaking with the woman by phone, detectives convinced her to come out of her truck.

Once out, detectives safely took her into custody.

During their investigation, detectives found a gun, drugs, and drug paraphernalia.

Detectives booked the woman into the Salt Lake County Metro Jail on numerous felony offenses.

Her name is not being released as further investigative steps are conducted.

Charges are only allegations, and every arrested person is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.

The Salt Lake City Police Department is not the custodian of record for jail booking photos. Utah Code 17-22-30 mostly prohibits the release of jail booking photos. Generally, a jail booking photo can only be released by the custodian of record after a conviction or when law enforcement determines the person is a fugitive or an imminent threat to a person or public safety. In Salt Lake City, the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office is the custodian of record for jail booking photos.

The Salt Lake City Police Department’s Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT) is a specialized unit within the department tasked with combating violent crime by identifying and apprehending violent criminals and fugitives. Operating under the SLCPD’s Special Operations Division, VCAT collaborates closely other divisions within the department to pinpoint and enforce targeted measures in hot spot areas and regions experiencing a surge in violent crime. Established to address emerging violent crime trends and the activities of repeat violent offenders in Salt Lake City, VCAT coordinates efforts with detectives, the Salt Lake Information Center (SLIC), and the SLCPD’s Crime Intelligence and Analysis Unit (CIAU) to identify and apprehend violent offenders.
