SLCPD Provides Update on Large Fight, Six People Booked into JailSALT LAKE CITY — The Salt Lake City Police Department is providing an update to a large fight that resulted in two officers being injured and a citywide response to help safely restore order. The suspects in this case are identified as:
Early this morning, officers booked all six suspects into the Salt Lake County Jail on charges that include disorderly conduct, interfering with an arresting officer, and public intoxication. This investigation started at 11:28 p.m. on Friday, November 1, 2024, when Salt Lake City Police responded to a fight at 1704 South Main Street. Once on scene, officers learned someone assaulted three people. The suspect reportedly left in a car before officers arrived. No one injured needed extensive medical care. Officers requested additional units to respond because of the crowd’s size, their behavior, and because the crowd wouldn’t let officers render aid. Once officers stabilized the situation, and the initial on scene investigation neared completion, two groups started verbally arguing with each other. Recognizing the quickly growing hostility between the groups, officers tried separating the groups and ordered people to start leaving the area as they tried to prevent a larger fight. However, the groups remained unaffected by police orders and at 12:07 a.m. on Saturday, November 2, 2024, the two groups began physically fighting with each other. Officers witnessed a person punch someone in the head from behind. Officers immediately intervened and requested a citywide response to help safely restore public order. During the efforts to stabilize the incident, oleoresin capsicum (OC spray) was deployed by SLCPD. Even after officers separated the groups, several splinter fights continued. Once officers stabilized the scene, officers canceled the citywide-response and regular patrol operations resumed. Charges are only allegations, and every arrested person is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. The Salt Lake City Police Department is not the custodian of record for jail booking photos. Utah Code 17-22-30 mostly prohibits the release of jail booking photos. Generally, a jail booking photo can only be released by the custodian of record after a conviction or when law enforcement determines the person is a fugitive or an imminent threat to a person or public safety. In Salt Lake City, the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office is the custodian of record for jail booking photos. The information contained in this news release is based on a preliminary review of the details available to the Salt Lake City Police Department.
