SLCPD Announces Potential Travel Impacts Ahead of NHL Welcome Party

SALT LAKE CITY — The Salt Lake City Police Department wants community members to be aware of potential travel impacts ahead of a National Hockey League (NHL) welcome party.

The event will start at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, April 24, 2024, at the Delta Center, located at 301 West South Temple Street.

According to the NHL in Utah website, the plaza party will begin at 4 p.m.

Although the exact number of attendees is not known, the SLCPD is encouraging community members to carpool, use public transportation, or a rideshare service.

SLCPD officers will be in the area to help ensure safety. Community members are urged to report anything suspicious by calling 9-1-1 or flagging down an officer.

Right now, there are no expected road closures.

However, officers may be posted at various intersections near the Delta Center to help with pedestrian crossing and traffic control.

Officers assigned to the SLCPD Motor Squad will also be available to help manage traffic should heavy congestion occur.

People living, working, and visiting this part of downtown should expect traffic delays and be prepared for more pedestrian traffic than usual.

People who choose to park their vehicles around the Delta Center should remove all valuables and ensure all doors and windows are closed and locked.
