April 8, 2013 — A new art exhibit featuring the top 25 entries in the Salt Lake City Police Department’s Student Art Contest opened today in the Urban Room of the main City Library, 210 E. 400 S., Salt Lake City.

The exhibit is free and open to the public during library hours. Finalists include:

  • East High School: Morgan Birch

  • West High School: Kyla Bobb, Chris McConkie, Casie Lambert, Gerardo Galvez-Zamora, Rachel Urban

Each participating student earns a contest t-shirt, while the top picks compete for scholarships, laptops, iPads, iPods and other prizes. The final round of judging will take place Wednesday, April 17, with prizes awarded and a pizza open house for all entrants at 3 p.m. at the City Library.

More than 90 students attending high schools in Salt Lake City created poster-size works of art for the Department’s annual “know more, kNOw DRUGS” contest. To view every submission, visit the Department’s Flickr page.

The Department will use the contest’s winning entries in a public awareness campaign about the consequences of drug use and abuse.

SLCPD wishes to thank the Salt Lake City Police Foundation for underwriting this year’s Student Art Contest, for which program support was provided by The Art Institute of Salt Lake City.
