SLCPD Arrest Suspect in Pioneer Park Stabbing

SALT LAKE CITY — Today, officers with the Salt Lake City Police Department arrested a 38-year-old man accused of stabbing another man in Pioneer Park.

This investigation started at 12:43 p.m. on April 21, 2022 when SLC911 received a call about a man who had been stabbed.

Officers and paramedics responded to a nearby business and located the victim with a non-life-threatening stab wound to his upper body. Paramedics transported the man to a local hospital.

After broadcasting the suspect’s description, responding officers quickly located the suspect, identified as Makuthe Deng, and safely took him into custody.

Based on the preliminary information, the men, who are acquaintances, got into an altercation and Deng allegedly stabbed the victim.

Officers transported Deng to the Salt Lake County Metro Jail and booked him on charges of: Aggravated Assault, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Public Urination, and Public Intoxication.

Charges are only allegations, and every arrested person is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.

A photo taken at the scene is being released.

The victim’s name is not being released and the SLCPD has no update on his medical condition. No further information on this case is being released at this time.
