SLCPD Investigating Crash, 3 People Critically Injured

SALT LAKE CITY — The Salt Lake City Police Department is investigating a crash that critically injured three adults.

This investigation started at 10:42 p.m. on Monday December 26, 2022, when a Salt Lake City Police officer assigned to the Central Division Bike Squad rolled up on a crash at 600 North 900 West.

The officer immediately got out of his patrol car and started assessing the situation. The officer called for additional police resources and asked Salt Lake City Fire and Gold Cross Ambulance to respond.

This crash involved two vehicles.

The driver of the first vehicle was traveling northbound on 900 West. Witnesses reported the driver was traveling at a high rate of speed.

The second vehicle, which had two people inside, was traveling westbound on 600 North when the first vehicle crashed into the driver-side.

The crash impact occurred in the intersection of 600 North and 900 West and pushed the second vehicle into a yard at 615 North 900 West.

Based on evidence found at the scene, officers believe alcohol may be a factor in the crash.

The Salt Lake City Police Department is asking people living on 900 West in between 300 North and 600 North to check their home surveillance systems from approximately 10:39 p.m. 10:42 p.m. to see if it captured the first vehicle traveling northbound on 900 West. The Crash Analysis Reconstruction (CAR) Team and SLCPD Crime Lab technicians responded to the scene.

The CAR Team is a multi-jurisdictional crash team that investigates crashes involving serious physical injuries or death. Members of the CAR Team receive specialized training in collision examination, speed analysis, vehicle dynamics, occupant kinematics, scene photography, surveying equipment, crash scene mapping, evidence collection and computer aided drawing programs.

The CAR Team includes law enforcement from the Salt Lake City Police Department and several other Salt Lake Valley law enforcement agencies.

A Salt Lake City Police Public Information Officer (PIO) responded to the scene to provide media updates.

Several photos are being released. Media may use these photos with proper credit to the Salt Lake City Police Department.

The names, ages and genders of those involved are not being released, pending confirmation.

No further updates are expected on this case until at least 12 p.m. on Tuesday December 27, 2022.
