SLCPD Investigating Shooting, Man Seriously Injured

SALT LAKE CITY — The Salt Lake City Police Department is investigating a shooting that injured a 29-year-old man.

This investigation started at 3:34 p.m. on Thursday, June 22, 2023, when SLC911 received calls about a shooting near 900 South Montgomery Street.

SLCPD patrol officers, detectives with the SLCPD’s Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT), and the SLCPD’s Pioneer Division Bike Squad arrived and found a 29-year-old-man with a gunshot wound.

Officers immediately provided medical aid.

The Salt Lake City Fire Department and Gold Cross Ambulance arrived and gave additional emergency care. Paramedics took the man to a local hospital in serious condition. His injuries are not considered life-threatening.

The preliminary investigation shows the victim and suspect got into an argument, which resulted in the shooting.

The suspect ran away before officers arrived. Despite an exhaustive search of the area, officers did not find the shooter.

At this time, it is believed this is an isolated incident and there is no threat to our community.

Officers and detectives with the SLCPD’s Robbery Squad are still working through witness statements, reviewing video, and collecting evidence to gather more details.

 SLCPD Crime Lab technicians responded to process, document, and collect the evidence on scene.
