SLCPD Hosts Annual Halloween Fun FestSALT LAKE CITY — Today, the Salt Lake City Police Department hosted its annual Halloween Fun Fest at the Public Safety Building. The free community event brought spooks and smiles to children of all ages. “Our annual Halloween Fun Fest is an event everyone at our department looks forward to each year,” said Chief Mike Brown. “This is a great experience meeting people, sharing stories, and making memories with our community members.” Families danced along to music provided by Community Outreach DJ, Detective Wilson Silva, as they collected tricks and treats at the decorated booths. On display were booths for families to meet with police officers, professional staff, crime lab, firefighters, and a variety of other city departments and community partners. The Salt Lake City Fire Department dropped pumpkins from the top of a ladder truck during the festival. Creepy, crawling insects with The Bug Lady, Christy Bills from the Natural History Museum of Utah were also on display. A train ride operated by a SLCPD Hazardous Devices Unit (HDU) detective and robot brought thrills to everyone. “These events are successful because of the great partnerships we have with community organizations, businesses and others,” added Chief Brown. “I am grateful for their continued commitment to fostering positive relationships between our department and our community.” The SLCPD recognizes the women and men of the department who organized the fun fest, along with the following sponsors and participants: · Salt Lake City Mayor’s Office · Salt Lake City Police Foundation · Salt Lake City Police Mutual Aid Association · Salt Lake Police Association · Fraternal Order of Police Capitol City Lodge #29 · Salt Lake City Fire Department · SLC911 · Salt Lake City Public Library · Redevelopment Agency of Salt Lake City · Salt Lake City Public Utilities · Salt Lake City Sustainability · Salt Lake City Promising Youth Project · Waterford/Upstart · Natural History Museum of Utah · Latino Coalition · Alliance Community Services · Nightmare on 13th · Sweets Candy Company · Oscar Mayer Wienermobile The SLCPD reminds community members to have a fun but safe Halloween – trick-or-treat in groups, wear reflective clothing or use a flashlight, be careful crossing the street, visit familiar neighborhoods, and have a plan.
