SLCPD Officers Arrest Drunk Driver, Recover Firearm

SALT LAKE CITY — Officers with the Salt Lake City Police Department have arrested a 24-year-old man who is accused of driving drunk, doing donuts in a parking lot, and being a restricted person in possession of a firearm.

This investigation started at 4:54 a.m. on Saturday, November 25, 2023, when SLC911 received information about a reckless driver near 1905 South 300 West.

When officers arrived, they found Cody James Browe slumped over in the driver seat.

Within a few moments of approaching the car, the officer detected signs of impairment.

During the investigation, officers recovered a large bottle of vodka and a firearm.

Browe is a restricted person and prohibited from carrying a firearm.

Officers booked Browe into the Salt Lake County Metro Jail on charges of possession of dangerous weapon by a restricted person, driving under the influence, having an open container, and other charges related to a prior DUI offense.

Charges are only allegations, and every arrested person is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.

The Salt Lake City Police Department is not the custodian of record for jail booking photos. Utah Code 17-22-30 mostly prohibits the release of jail booking photos. Generally, a jail booking photo can only be released by the custodian of record after a conviction or when law enforcement determines the person is a fugitive or an imminent threat to a person or public safety. In Salt Lake City, the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office is the custodian of record for jail booking photos.
