SLCPD Officers Seize Gun, Arrest 28-Year-Old Man in Liberty Park

SALT LAKE CITY — Today, officers with the Salt Lake City Police Department safely arrested a 28-year-old man accused of illegally possessing a gun and drugs.

This investigation started at 12:04 p.m. on Tuesday, December 26, 2023, when SLC911 got a call about a man threatening someone with a gun inside Liberty Park.

A Salt Lake City Police patrol sergeant was at the park when the call came out and coordinated the search for the suspect.

Officers, including the SLCPD’s Bike Squad assigned to the Liberty Patrol Division, safely took Dawood Alogaili into custody.

During a search, officers found a gun and marijuana on Alogaili.

Officers believe Alogaili went to Liberty Park to buy drugs.

Officers took Alogaili to the Salt Lake County Metro Jail and booked him on charges of possession of a firearm by a restricted person and possession of marijuana.

Charges are only allegations, and every arrested person is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.

The Salt Lake City Police Department is not the custodian of record for jail booking photos. Utah Code 17-22-30 mostly prohibits the release of jail booking photos. Generally, a jail booking photo can only be released by the custodian of record after a conviction or when law enforcement determines the person is a fugitive or an imminent threat to a person or public safety. In Salt Lake City, the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office is the custodian of record for jail booking photos.
