SLCPD Investigating Shooting, 1 Person in Critical Condition

SALT LAKE CITY — The Salt Lake City Police Department is investigating a shooting that critically injured a man.

This investigation started at 6:41 p.m. on January 29, 2024, when SLC911 received information about a shooting at 1413 South 1200 West.

The motive to the shooting is unknown.

Officers responded and found the man on the sidewalk with a gunshot wound. Officers requested paramedics and firefighters to expedite their response.

Officers applied a tourniquet and provided life-saving aid.

Witnesses told officers the shooter and an unknown number of people left the area.

Officers locked down the neighborhood and started looking for the suspects involved.

Initially, officers were told the victim’s injuries were not life-threatening.

However, after the victim arrived at the hospital, officers learned medical staff downgraded the victim’s condition.

The victim currently has life-threatening injuries.

Because of the quick response from officers, they safely detained one person. However, during their investigation, officers determined that person not to be involved.

Officers with the Salt Lake City Police Department’s K-9 Squad responded to assist with the search for the people involved.

Officers have since lifted the neighborhood lock down. Several roads near the crime scene remain closed.

Due to the nature of the victim’s injuries, detectives have responded.
