SLCPD Arrest 22-Year-Old Man Accused of Shooting and Injuring Two Men

SALT LAKE CITY — Today, the Salt Lake City Police Department is announcing the arrest of a 22-year-old man who is accused of shooting and injuring two men during a fight on the Fourth of July.

Detectives booked Jose Jimenez-Mancilla into the Salt Lake County Metro Jail on six counts of felony discharge of a firearm and two counts of aggravated assault.

Through the investigation, it is believed Jimenez-Mancilla got into a fight with both men in an apartment complex which led to Jimenez-Mancilla firing his gun.

All three men know each other.

This investigation started at 5:19 a.m. on Thursday, July 4, 2024, when SLC911 received a call about someone being shot at 385 West 1700 South.

Officers arrived on scene and found two men – a 22-year-old and a 24-year-old.

The 22-year-old suffered multiple gunshot wounds. The 24-year-old suffered one gunshot wound.

Paramedics took both men to the hospital. The 22-year-old man had serious, but non-life-threatening injuries. The 24-year-old man had a non-life-threatening injury.

Officers safely took Jimenez-Mancilla into custody and recovered a gun on scene.

Detectives with the Robbery/Violent Crimes Squad and SLCPD Crime Lab technicians responded to help with the investigation.

Charges are only allegations, and every arrested person is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.

The Salt Lake City Police Department is not the custodian of record for jail booking photos. Utah Code 17-22-30 mostly prohibits the release of jail booking photos. Generally, a jail booking photo can only be released by the custodian of record after a conviction or when law enforcement determines the person is a fugitive or an imminent threat to a person or public safety. In Salt Lake City, the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office is the custodian of record for jail booking photos.

No further information on this case is being released. Neither the PIO nor the On-Duty Watch Commander are available for interviews.
